Review: Farm House

This morning I went and had a Girl's Day with my mother and sister. On our list of places to go was to a little place called Farm House. My mother and I had gone once before, around lunch time, and it wasn't bad - why not try breakfast?

As with many restaurants in Portland the Farm House is a restaurant and lounge...bar in back, restaurant in front and keno lottery all around! Their front door even says "Children Welcome" in case their family-friendly atmosphere were to be questioned.

For the most part the Farm House is your typical country breakfast spot. Walls covered in carved roosters, hens on plates and your odd farm tools strapped above your head...all topped off with your typical menu: eggs, omelets, pancakes, etc

But there are a few items that set the Farm House out from other hash houses. Things like Mountain Trout and Eggs...a Cajun Skillet...or if you're feeling adventurous a Hawaiian Omelet.

We ordered.

Mom got the Eggs Benedict and my sister got a 1/2 order of Biscuits & Gravy and a 1/2 order of French Toast.

I however have a fall back plan. When nothing special jumps out off the menu I go with the standard. Eggs, bacon, toast (I do admit though I ordered a waffle in addition)....simple enough you would think but I've been to too many establishments where this simple request has stumped their line cooks.

In my opinion if you can make a simple egg breakfast I'll come back and give your establishment another try with something more sophisticated.

As normal we all tried a little of everyone else's. It was alright for the most part. Nothing retched or vile but nothing special either.

I typically will give everything 2 chances - whether a restaurant or a dish.

Well Farm House I gave you a second chance and while my family had fun eating together I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.
